Thirteen Preludes for piano: Echoes of Nature, Memory, and Desire

LIMBO is a personal journey, guided by music, that invites one to venture into an inner space where memory and desire intertwine with nature and with the senses of those who pause to contemplate the uniqueness of every detail. The notes settle into the writing of a composer and become sound through the personal and reflective interpretation of a young pianist; the delicacy of her touch embraces each piece and delivers it to the mysterious destiny of listening.

Limbo is a collection of thirteen pieces composed between October 2024 and February 2025. The title recalls the first prelude of the series, inspired by a few verses of a loved one who is no longer here, but who over the years left deep traces of sensitivity and gratitude toward my musical creativity.

The chosen pianistic language is deliberately “simple.” Tonal harmonies and essential lines, in search of the same purity one breathes in the woods and vineyards of the Euganean Hills: the silence that enfolds the leaves, the freshness of water, the breath of the wind, the vivid colors of the red earth like fire.

Some pieces hold personal bonds: "Tommy", the cat who kept me company through many hours of creative work, and “Ortone”, a title that joins the name of a whimsical volcanic hill with that of a local wine. Others open to literary suggestions: "Albatros", a tribute to Baudelaire’s famous poem, is a sign of gratitude to one who knew how to look deeply into the soul of an artist.

The piano is the main voice, but it finds companionship in the violin and cello, instruments that broaden the sonic space and enrich its nuances: the somewhat languid dialogue between piano and violin in "Nulla"; the romantic yet orderly weaving of "Senza storia" (piano, violin, and cello); or the intense conversation between piano and cello in "Quota 101", which bursts forth full of passion and unpredictability.

Each prelude is a small fragment of life. "Ghiaccio" and "Rarefatto" speak of vulnerability and waiting, expressions of the uncertainties that pass through our existence. "Piuma" and "Foglie" evoke lightness and transience. "Quota 101" preserves the memory of a place steeped in tradition, with its fragrances distilled from nature. To close the circle, "Acqua" and "Fuoco": two primordial elements from which everything originates, bearers of an overwhelming and pulsing energy, like two voices merging and clashing in a crescendo of emotions and passion.
